What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation, sometimes called a boob job, enhances the shape and size of your breasts. Silicone or saline implants or a fat transfer transforms your chest to fix asymmetry, increase the cup size, or improve roundness.

You may choose breast augmentation to increase the fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the proportions of your hips and breasts, and enhance your self-image.

What are the available types of breast implants?

Dr. Blatchford offers saline and silicone implants in a variety of shapes and sizes. The type you choose depends on your personal preferences and size goals. For example, silicone implants feel soft and natural and are less prone to rippling. Saline implants are slightly more customizable and require a smaller incision site.

Fat transfer is another breast augmentation option. It involves taking fat from one place in your body, like your hips or thighs, and moving it to your breasts to achieve a natural appearing increase in cup size. Fat transfer gives you more subtle results than implants.

Am I a good candidate for breast augmentation?

Consider breast augmentation if you’re unhappy with the size and/or shape of your breasts. You should be in good general health and at least 18 years old.

Breast augmentation is a procedure you should decide to do to please yourself and not to satisfy someone else’s ideal. Breast augmentation is also appropriate for a female with asymmetrical breasts or a genetically flat chest.

What is it like to get breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is major surgery, performed under general anesthesia, but you do go home the same day to recover.

While you’re under anesthesia, Dr. Blatchford makes the incisions and inserts your implants. Prior to your surgery, he’ll review his surgical approach so you’ll know in advance where the incisions are placed and what type of scarring to expect.

He closes the incisions with dissolvable stitches and surgical tape. Expect to have some bruising, soreness, and swelling after your surgery. These side effects are temporary and subside within a few days. Dr. Blatchford recommends you wear a compression garment for a few days to help with any swelling.

You can return to a desk job and regular chores within a week. But, hold off on any strenuous activity for about 8 weeks.

If you’re ready to set up your breast augmentation consultation, call Chestnut Wellness today or use the online tool to schedule.
